Doctoral Funding Mentoring Program for 2nd Year Students

Learning how to navigate the world of honorific, extramural fellowships and grants is a crucial professional development skill for all graduate students. Participants in this program will learn best practices in grantsmanship, how to build a 5-year extramural funding plan that will support you through each phase of graduate study and help you develop a fellowship or grant application to be submitted during the 2016-2017 academic year. Program Schedule

Unit 1 (June 1-July 1)
Understanding merit-based, honorific funding and proposal writing as a graduate student: Your GradFund peer mentor will help you understand and navigate the multiple grant and fellowship options available to you as a graduate student and provide you with an introduction to proposal writing 101.

Unit 2 (July 1-August 1)
Building a 5 year funding plan: Build a funding plan (the GradFund plan) and integrate the process of applying for funding into your graduate career. With the GradFund plan, as you progress through your degree program, you will be prepared to apply for grants and fellowships to support your work and research.

Unit 3 (August 1-September 15)
Writing your first application: Now that you understand the basics of applying for grants and fellowships as a graduate student, we will help you get started on your first application. Your GradFund peer mentor will facilitate your fellowship application writing group with structured writing and blogging exercises and deadlines designed to help you craft a competitive fellowship or grant application to be submitted during the 2016-2017 application season.
