14-JAN-10 | Workshop: How to Write a Successful External Funding Proposal to Support Your Dissertation

This workshop is designed for the doctoral student who plans to apply for external funding in the Spring or Fall 2010 semesters to support dissertation work (research and/or writing) during the 2010-2011 or 2011-2012 academic years. The workshop will take the student through the mechanics of writing a strong proposal for external funding. To participate in the workshop, each registered participant must complete and submit by 9:00am on Thursday, January 7, 2010 either our Proposal Writing Tutorial (which is available on the Fellowship Guide Sakai site) or a proposal written for a specific funding competition. Participants should be prepared to draft a funding proposal based on their proposed dissertation research. The workshop activities will include lecture, group discussions, group exercises and review and critique sessions. The work you produce for the workshop will be discussed and critiqued by the group. To participate, pre-registration is required by December 18, 2009.

This workshop provides an overview of proposal writing. Covering the basic elements that go into a successful proposal, this lecture-based workshop will guide the participants through all the essential components that go into a successful proposal for external funding. The workshop will also provide an introduction to GradFund services and how to identify research grants and fellowships to support graduate students. Pre registration is not required but is requested. To pre register, please send an email to gradfund@rci.rutgers.edu.
